Mark Pettinello
Mark Pettinelli was an artist that I came across on the Internet when searching for abstract art. I was immediately intrigued by the bright infrared looking colors. I at first looked at this image and contemplated over it for a while, it wasn’t until I looked at the description that I figured out what it finally was. Mark is self taught and his preferred mediums are cars, paint and sculpture. Pettinelli says that his work is very digital and crisp looking. What I like about this artist is that his work kind of reminds me of a couple spreads I have done for my artist book which is taking photographs and modifying them, bringing out colors and different effects. By using modified images he makes the claim that his art is based off of real things, not made up things. He is very interested in psychology both basic and complicated. Basic in the sense of fundamental factors that influence something when just standing around doing nothing, taking notice to things in a different manner. The complicated psychology comes from complicated world interactions. I like how he has the ability to take mundane things and things that we can take for granted into artwork that can be appreciated.

Howard Schatz
For my artist book and just recently over break I have taken hundreds of photographs and have enjoyed every minute of it, so for my next artist to research online I wanted to research a photographer. The photographer that I found most compelling with surfing the net for a little while was Howard Schatz. He is an award winning photographer. He has been seen as a visionary in photography. Any of his work that he does is amazing, from shots for sports magazines, to high fashion photography. His exhibition titled In Character: Actors Acting, places actors outside of their normal comfort zone into something different all while snapping photos along the different scenarios. He gives the actors a character to portray and act in in different scenarios with the scenarios explained by cards below the picture. I like this tactic that he uses and the way the he got images of people in a different state of mind. This technique I think can be very beneficial to me and to people who are interested in photography. During spring break I was taking portraits of a couple of people and I have to say that it was a little awkward, but if I use Howard Schatz’ technique of scenarios Im sure it would be much more comfortable.
