Ever since being to the Bellagio hotel in Las Vegas and seeing Dale Chihuly’s art glass ceiling I have always been interested in glass blowing and glass art. His influence from the environment and he uses neon, argos, and blown glass forms to create room-sized installations of organic, freestanding, plantlike imagery. What I like most about his work is that it balances content with an investigation of the materials properties of translucency and transparency. Chihuly fostered the blurring of boundaries that separated the arts. His works explore color, line and assemblage. His works have inspired many people who work under him, and he has paved the way for many glass artists, creating new techniques, styles, and even terms. Chihuly loves the ocean and this is something that I can definitely relate to. His love for the ocean and water is shown through his work, in his ponds, to the fluidity of line that he uses. Nothing it too big and nothing is too small for Dale Chihuly, but he is best known for his multipart blown masterpieces, like the one in the Bellagio hotel. Dale passion still lives on today although he is unable to do the actual work himself and wears an eye patch, he paints his visions first on canvas and then employs a team for the execution. His work can be seen in multiple places, inside galleries, and outside installations.
