STELARC

Stelarc is an Australian based performance artist whose medium definitely blurs the lines between technology, machines and the human body. His work explores and extends, even literally sometimes, the concept of the body and its relationship with technology and machines. Through robotics, prosthetics, machines, technology, and the like the interest is in alternate, intimate and involuntary encounters. The first thing that you see on the website is a picture of a body which has been covered with wires and little gizmos and gadgets all over, and it says “INVOLUNTARY BODY/ THIRD HAND.” One Stelarcs project is a prosthetic arm, which is literally an extension of his body. A viewer can get lost in this site looking at this completely marveling work as I did. What I like about this website is that through Stelarcs artwork, we see what he means when he says that the body is obsolete, and I think that this is something really interesting to think about. One of my favorite pieces on the website
